From the recording Lotus
Lotus Part 1 is a free jazz piece, meaning that it is improvised on the spot by the musicians. Lotus Part 1 starts off slow, mysterious, and reflective. As the piece continues it grows in tempo and harmonic dissonance. The progression is organic and much like that of a story. For the lyric Isabella wrote a short Buddhist inspired poem, everything else on the tune is completely improvisational. The poem is about a beautiful flower called a lotus blossom, and how it can only grow in unpleasant environments. It is a metaphor for how people coming from even the most horrific backgrounds can reach enlightenment and attain complete Buddhanature.
